This week we are having special days to promote literacy. Tuesday is COLOUR day; wear fun, bright colours and ride your bike to school! There will be room in the gym to park all the bikes. Wednesday is crazy hair/hat day. The whole school will be participating in 'DROP everything and READ' where we will hear an announcement to stop what you're doing and pick up a book. Thursday is crazy SOCK day! Wear your favourite, silly socks. Friday will be beach day and we will be doing a fun sandcastle activity. Please use your judgement for appropriate beach wear. (ie. no bikini tops!)
This upcoming Friday, September 29th there will be an assembly at 10:45 to kick off our Terry Fox run. We are asking students to bring a 'two'nie for Terry! Also, it is Orange Shirt Day. Here is some info on this important day: Orange Shirt Day is a legacy of the St. Joseph Mission (SJM) residential school commemoration event held in Williams Lake, BC, Canada, in the spring of 2013. It grew out of Phyllis' story of having her shiny new orange shirt taken away on her first day of school at the Mission, and it has become an opportunity to keep the discussion on all aspects of residential schools happening annually. The date was chosen because it is the time of year in which children were taken from their homes to residential schools, and because it is an opportunity to set the stage for anti-racism and anti-bullying policies for the coming school year.
